Propósito e atividades
O Centro visa criar uma estrutura de política estratégica para preservar as coleções atuais de bibliotecas e abordar questões que surgem à medida que as coleções digitais congruentes evoluem. Sua missão é expressa em objetivos hortativos, mas seu trabalho está focado em resultados práticos:
To assist cultural heritage agencies and organizations develop strategies for the preservation of cultural heritage assets in museums, libraries and archives, including the further development of the "Preservation Assessment Survey" (PAS) and training in the use of the PAS toolsTo provide print and web-based information services for individuals and organizations, especially for collections throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.To provide training in preservation management for individuals and organizations including relevant training in the following areas: introduction to preservation management; disaster management; environmental control and monitoring.A necessidade de entidades nacionais como o Centro foi documentada em pesquisas conduzidas pela seção Federação Internacional de Associações e Instituições de Bibliotecas (IFLA) sobre preservação e conservação e pela Ligue International des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherches. O centro mantém um banco de dados da PAS e publica um resumo e relatório anual.
