Essas competições são projetadas para desafiar o conhecimento dos alunos sobre as culturas da Roma antiga e da Grécia antiga através da redação de uma ampla variedade de concursos. A maioria dos concursos é oferecida em três níveis diferentes: júnior, intermediário e sênior. Os testes de leitura oral derivada e grega gregos têm apenas dois: juniores e sênior. Quaerite Summa não tem níveis. Os níveis em alguns concursos são determinados pelos anos de estudo de idiomas, enquanto outros são baseados no nível da série ou em uma combinação dos dois. O pentatlo acadêmico consiste em todos os cinco concursos de 'Cursus', onde a pontuação total dos pentatletas é determinada pela pontuação total alcançada nos cinco concursos.

A maioria dos eventos é dividida por idade e sexo. A corrida de revezamento, a fuga, a corrida de estilo livre de 50 metros e a corrida de estilo livre de 100 metros são divididos apenas por gênero. O Discus Ultimus e a Chariot Race estão abertos a todos juntos.
